SUMMARY
Within the exciting Scene 3 of One Punch Man, titled “The Fanatical Researcher,” our saint Saitama finds himself confronting a impressive adversary. The scene starts with the appearance of a strange animal known as the “Carnage Kabuto,” unleashed by the House of Advancement. Dr. Class, the over the top researcher behind the monster’s creation, looks for to test its quality against the powerful Saitama. As the fight follows, Saitama’s overpowering control and power rapidly ended up clear. Carnage Kabuto, a savage animal able of destroying any rival, demonstrates to be no coordinate for our modest hero. In spite of his best endeavors, Dr. Genus’s creation falls easily to a single punch from Saitama, taking off the scientist in amazement. One Punch Man continues to impress, showing us this week that he can carry a villain throughout an episode. Up to this point, each episode has had many villains that Saitama takes down in one crushing blow, but things slow down when we find a single point of focus and a hidden secret to uncover!. The cyborg gorilla has been revealing the complex backstory of the mad scientist who created it since the last episode. This information is vital, but again it rattles off too long for Saitama’s liking, and Genos reminds the cyborg to keep his description to 20 words. Let’s see if I can do it! . Genus is one of the greatest scientists the world has ever known, but he is obsessed with the next step in human evolution. A step that leads to the fusion of humans and animals into a superspecies. They are trying to create this species and take over the “new world”. Um, about 50 words. Sorry everyone (Sorry Saitama.) Anyway, Genus (not to be confused with Genos) believes that Saitama is the key to unlocking some potential in his grand plan. I have to admit, I like that One Punch Man is dealing with another common plot in an action anime. We saw the human/beast subspecies that appeared in Fullmetal Alchemist and Hunter x Hunter. These ideas are followed by the themes of evolution and humanity.
Themes that One Punch Man barely touches on in this episode, but there are plenty of nods to. Saitama decides that he has to do this mad science thing as soon as possible because tomorrow is not good, there is a special sale at the market. Genos is surprised, but ready to follow his master’s lead. A beautifully animated dash through the forest ensues as the two hurtle across the ground to where Genus’s evil layer is located. Genos seems to marvel at Saitama’s physical abilities and is surprised that his master chose to run instead of fly. Which brings up an interesting point, can Saitama fly? It really came out in the past installments when he was fighting the gigantic brother/monster, but I also toyed with the idea that maybe he could jump really high. Saitama confirms this theory as true and uses the non-pulse “humans can’t fly”. When the two arrive at the scientist’s lair, we the audience realize that Genus has set up a series of elaborate traps that will surely keep them at bay for at least another few episodes if it plays out like previous shounen anime. However, Genos will have none of it and destroys the entire building with one big explosion. The action is a little shocking, but I like that Genos is revealing more of his no-nonsense attitude. He chooses to deal with everything analytically, but often ends up choosing to blow up, sometimes in ways that require far more firepower than necessary. Luckily, Genus wasn’t in an actual building and was instead in the basement where all the evil scientists lurk. I’m sure there’s a rule for that somewhere.
With the arrival of Saitama, Genus decides to summon his greatest and most terrifying creation, The Carnage Kabuto. Carnage is a hybrid of a Hercules beetle and a human, but he has no humanity in him. All he cares about is fighting and destruction. Definitely a bad guy. When he is released, he quickly finds the intruder and neutralizes Genos, then invites Saitama to the ultimate training room. Because of course they have a training room buried deep below the earth’s surface. Why not? The fight between Saitama and Carnage is about to begin when Genos returns with a vengeance. Following is the weekly “beautiful” fight scene for this episode. It’s so fast I had to watch it again, but every moment is perfectly executed as Genos wields the flamethrowers like a firebender. He looks good in combat, unfortunately his abilities are no match for Carnage who just throws fire at Genos and…. well, it’s just not Genos’ day. Eventually, Saitama steps up to fight. You can tell he means business because he has his game face on. Carnage has other ideas. He can sense a strong, menacing aura from Saitama and knows without a doubt that the hero could kill him. He wants to know how Saitama became so strong, what his secret is. Of course, this question was at the forefront of everyone’s mind. Including Genos, who agreed to intensive training. Then Saitama reveals the secret of his power without hesitation. Methods he used for three years that eventually led to his baldness.
I confirm that I really like this screenshot. And yes, his mysterious training regiment gets up every day at 6 a.m. and does exactly 100 push-ups, sit-ups, squats and runs 10 kilometers. At this point, Genos emphasizes that it is often basic quality preparation and not actual preparation. It’s definitely nothing like the strong and crazy prep styles in DragonballZ, Naruto, or even Dye. Heck, Mr. Miyagi doesn’t actually train in Karate Kid. It’s fair, very… crucial. But he speaks of this regiment as if it were the hardest thing in the world. I’m cruel, getting up early and running is pretty irritating, but it’s not incomprehensible. The silliness of it all is one of the scene’s leading comedic revelations. And once again I adore the fashion given for this minute. Which makes me wonder if Saitama is truly unique from other people. Maybe he’s a step up in evolution as Genus believes, maybe he’s an alien. Who knows, but now we know there’s definitely something weird about him. Almost everyone in the room doesn’t believe him. Even Genos seems a little annoyed by the revelation, while Carnage’s anger pushes him into transformation. Because every villain needs a change. Again, it’s a rule… I think. His new CARNAGE MODE will put him in a killing haze for a solid week, causing nothing but death and destruction from now until next Saturday. Saitama looks at his new charged foe and is willing to admit that he may have made a mistake, but not for the reasons we think. Carnage pummels our hero with another brilliant display of color and action, while Saitama monologues like a classic action hero. Something along the lines of “I let it go too far, it’s going to rage for a week.” Until next Saturday, which means…
